Book Discussion

April 4th - Naples (Salone del Libro) 11.30h

THE EVENT

A public discussion on Carlo de Blasio’s book was scheduled on Saturday April 4th 2020, 11.30am. The book is <Il Sangue e l’Anima> (<The Blood and The Soul>), published by Guida editori in 2019. The venue chosen for the discussion was the Stazione Marittima of Naples. The event was part of the programme of the “Salone del Libro di Napoli“. Thus, the actress Cristina Donadio accepted the idea of prompting the discussion between the author and the audience. Unfortunately, the entire book fair was cancelled because of the covid-19 lockdown.

THE SCOPE

A public discussion on Carlo de Blasio’s book is a little chance. A chance for common readers or philosophy enthusiasts to ask questions. Along the meeting, a debate might arise about the ancient culture known as <epimeleia heautou> (CARE OF SELF). Such events go beyond the limits of an editorial presentation and promotion. They are good occasions to bring philosophy back on stage. In fact, for too long the philosophical discourse proved unable to escape academic boundaries. But now there is a need of philosophy, although in a non-specialist way. Therefore, it would be good to return philosophy in the bars, in the pubs, in the shops, in the civic arena. Real philosophy is an answer (not a solution) to cope with our insecurities and fragilities. It is nothing complicated. It is nothing irrealistic. Real philosophy only suggests a stance and an attitude in front of a problematic life.
